Problem with XP-KB2709162-x64-ENU APM

Postby eewiz » Tue Sep 08, 2015 1:31 pm

It never installs. Black text, it's checked, install, reloop, it's still balck text, checked.
Checked registry and catroot both missing. Win32k.dll file was version beyond update file version.
Ran WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2709162-x64-ENU.exe by hand and registry and catroot appeared.
File version unchanged, still beyond update file version.
On closer inspection of APM file I found the following:
[Installation]
"Module:\WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2709162-x64-ENU.exe" /quiet /no restart
Notice the space in "/no restart".
Removed registry and catroot. Removed space from "/no restart". Re-ran detection. Detected again.
Re-ran installation. Now installs correctly.
Blue text on next detection run.

@ eewiz --- Thanks for finding the error, I had a sneaking suspicion there may be errors with the modules but never took the time to recheck them. Have corrected the error but still need to update the detection file. Could you supply the file version so this also be corrected. Once that there are no more errors will proceed with re-signing the release and uploading to the server.

By your reference to "detection file", do you mean the .APM file that contains the "/no restart" issue?
I also am not quite sure what your reference to "the file version" is about.
The only issue is that the [Installation] section of KB2709162-x64-ENU.apm contains a space in the "/no restart" directive.
With the space in the "/no restart" directive in that .APM file, the WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2709162-x64-ENU.exe update simply fails to install.
