Hi Whatacrock,

I trust you have read the Microsoft bulletin regarding KB3192403 (October 2016 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup)? Do you think it is wise to include that kind of patch/rollup in your release before it has been sort of cleared by "crowd testing" or by "early adopters"?

The new patching model over at MS is to issue official patches on the 1-st tuesday of the month (the former "patch tuesday" appellation); then on the 3-rd tuesday of the month, to issue those patches that will probably be included in the next months rolluup and become official then. So, as it stands today, KB3192403 would be considered "beta release" and might bork some systems... Why not wait and include KB3192403 next month as it might change in the meantime and may not even be called by that KB number any more?

I realise that with the new patching model, AP has to be rethought and decisions need to be made concerning how it will work in the future; and it looks like it might be tough to decide. To that end, you and I have already engaged the conversation in another post (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1437).

Thank You.

I originally thought about NOT including in the release, but though better to include as some would post regarding it.
I am more inclined to let Windows Update Service take care of the Non Security side of the releases, and concentrate on just the Security side.
There are those that use Autopatcher to exclusively keep their systems up to date, These releases are primarily to bring a fresh install up to to present status instead of spending hours downloading the updates, once completed then enable Windows Update to fill the gaps.

A little correction regarding Patch Day, this occurs on the second Tuesday of each month and Non Security the following Tuesday.

More thought will be required on keeping or losing the KB3192403 update. Keep you posted.....

My bad, you're right. I guess, at 61, "senior moments" have begun :oops:

And, as if things weren't already complicated enough; I've been reading (on AskWoody.com & Ghacks.net among other places); it appears MS might fix bad security patches but will include the fix in the following "Monthly Quality Rollup" instead of re-issuing them in the "Security only Rollup". They've done it before. This does not bode well for me as I use AP to only install security patches (nothing else) and also to patch new systems before letting them loose on the Wild Wild Web. Choices, choices, choices... too many is like not enough.

Windows Seven x64 updated November 8, now available

changelog: +KB3197868; -KB3185330;

@ John_in_Mtl -- for the time being will continue with the "Monthly Quality Rollup" as is more for the general population. Also left in KB3192403 so that everyone gets a feel for just having one update to download. This will be superseded when the next batch of NON Security updates are released.
