since we appear to have... misplaced the illustrious Whatacrock. I will update the scripts. Starting with this one. Give me time to get in the swing of things ehh?

ok like wow... I remember now why I hate starting a fresh install. Windows 7 took forever to get updated. Damn updates kept freezing too. grr. Funny thing though... using just apup to update to its current spot; Windows updates says there are 31 more updates to install that were all pre 2016. Strange no?

This is why I keep an APUP archive around on memory-stick. Even if it only gets me up to May, it's a HELLUVA lot faster than waiting for it all to come down from Windows Update; as far as old updates showing up, it seems like it's always done that, for me at least.

Well I did manage to update windows 7 with apup to its latest but, guess what. All updates that come after are from the MS download.windowsupdate.com (catalog server) not from the download.microsoft.com (standard server). The links from the catalog server seem like they might be temporary links. I will post a link here and I want someone else to see if the link works for them.

Above link seems to download fine for me when clicked (currently running Windows 10 though)

on a sidenote I'm currently booted into my Windows 10 Virtual Machines and doing some patch testing and updating Windows 10 scripts as I reply here

What happened to Whatacrook? I could keep some of the smaller scripts like Java etc updated in his absence, but I don't fancy maintaining Windows 7 or Windows 8 just yet

I would need to get hold of some MSDN untouched Windows 7 & 8 ISO's and build up some more testing environments

Clicked the link and downloaded an MSU file 477MB in size. Looked inside it with 7zip, appears to be crammed full of microsofty things. Ran it, twiddled thumbs awhile as it ran, "Installation Complete, you must restart your computer yadayada" *reboot*

ok, back, seems to have worked. :)

I am unsure what has happened with WhatACrock. I am deeply worried for him. He was no young guy from what I remember of our conversations. He does not reply to any of his emails or chat accounts.

also... from what it seems... updating windows 7 is pretty much one file every month now and it is a rollup file.
After you get to the end of the standard update files provided by APUP you need the rollup file.
