Microsoft Security Essentials

Post by Whatacrock »

As everyone is aware that support for Windows XP ends on 8 April 2014, so does Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows XP, the download link will be removed when the new version is released.
Microsoft has already announced that starting April, when Windows XP support is scheduled to come to an end, download links for Security Essentials with support for this particular OS version would be removed, in an attempt to convince users to move to a newer platform.
Definition updates will continue for a further 12 months.
“If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time, but this does not mean that your PC will be secure because Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates to help protect your PC.”
So if there is anyone using MSE, I would advise that you download the installer and keep it a safe place, even those who download the MS Security release as when the new final version is released sometime in March 2014, Windows XP support will no longer be available...

Thanks for the info parkd1.

After reading the website and following the links, downloaded the installers to find they are the current ones we have in autopatcher (Microsoft is yet to upload the newer versions). With that being said hopefully the new files will appear soon and once available we will update the release.

As I have previously stated the new version will no longer support Windows XP.. therefore if you are user of MSSE on Win XP, I suggest that you keep a copy of MSSE 4.4.304.0 installer in a safe place, further suggestion is to rename it accordingly so you don't get it mixed up with the new version

WAC... you could always place in some OS qualifiers and leave out XP so it won't try to install. :)

That's exactly what I have done in editing ready for an official download link... MSSE is now only supported by Windows Vista and Seven, does not affect Windows 8 or 8.1 as Windows Defender is integrated in to the system.
BTW have renamed the apm modules, also the download files folders for these, excluding XP from the namings
..

Your guess is as good as mine --- all depends when Microsoft want to update the files on their servers...

MS Security Essentials has finally been updated, now on main list...

Please REMEMBER that this NO LONGER supports Windows XP, you can of course still receive definition updates but not install this latest version..
