A few old updates missing?

Post by undro »

How do you keep track of new updates that become available, or old ones that are removed?

I think I found three security updates that weren't included in AP's Win8 list.

2016/9:
KB3175024
KB3174644

2017/3:
KB4012213

Once I redo the scripts it will be as simple as removing one update and adding another. The rollup updates include all the previous updates back to 2016 except hotfixes and a few updates not included for some reason or another. There is that plus I have all this verified via my installed VM of windows 7 x64 and xp x64. I do not have a VM of windows 8 though. :(

The test is... once I believe the script is done I will run it on the VM and then ask the VM to see if there are any more updates.

While KB3174644 is officially defined as superseded by the monthly rollups since 6/2017, the other two aren't.
Maybe in fact they are, but it's not indicated in Microsoft's Update Catalog.

Is there a way to check if somethings superseded other than checking the Update Catalog?

Even the update catalog will not show all supersedes. :(
The rollup updates supersede all previous rollup updates but, the previous updates do not say they were superseded and the new rollup update does not state it supersedes others.

It is truly frustrating to find out that information sometimes.
You can start with the update catalog
Then check https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/lib ... 45122.aspx <-- Security Bulletins 2017 <-- This is the best source of information I think.

But only for security updates.

BTW, the way I tried to keep up with Office updates is this:

The thing with office updates is we(the release updaters) don't have office so we cannot create a detection for the update. It was also a hassle for WhatACrock to deal with updating that many scripts with no help.
