Help with Autopatcher please

Post by lkstap92 »

Hi all, first of all wonderfull app, I prefer 1000 times more this way of installing updates than with the ordinary windows update.
I recently installed windows 7 ultimate with service pack 1 32bit, installed drivers and today downloaded Apup, downloaded apup, autopatcher engine and windows 7 service pack x86 autopatcher, after that I proceeded to install the critical updates, after installing them they were 2 that wont install (KB2503665) AND (KB2727528), when I install it, it logof configure windows, reboot and after I check again autopatcher it keep saying that I need to install these 2 updates, I check installed updates and they are not installed. After seen that I proceeded to install the recommend updates, it installed them all except 6 (KB2502285, KB2488113, KB2484033, KB2699779, KB2592687, KB2819745 and KB2952664) same issue as before.
I maybe think its due to others updates installed and maybe don't need these ones that wont install.

Last issue if I can call it like that, I would say curiosity, I clicked on check for updates on windows update and after check it say I need to install 38 important updates, most of them security patches that haven't been installed or even downloaded from Apup, it even say to install Service pack 1 what I already have on my system (that's the kind of reasons why I always hated windows update), so im wondering why do windows update detect 38 important updates after install all with Autopatcher, why do it detect updates that I have not, do I need to install them?? Don't forget I just reinstalled the system, do Apup only install lasts updates of this month while windows update install updates realeased since service pack 1 was published? Just to inform last week I reinstalled the system and updated from windows update (that installed 238 updates) and computer was very slow after, and today reinstalled again system and updated with Autopatcher (installed like 6x critical and 6x recommended).

I just need to know why after installing updates with Autopatcher, windows update still detect 38 updates instead of saying that system is up to date and why do it find as update service pack while I already have it???

OK and sorry to ask so much first day I used this method, updates of windows are released I think every Tuesday, so to use this method again every week how do I check new updates? I guess I just need to open Apup right?

Big thx in advance !
Kind Regards

@lkstap92 -- Try installing the 2 Critical Updates KB2503665 and KB2727528 via Windows Update if they are displayed for installation, if they do not appear then most likely not required by your system (am looking into this at the moment),
likewise for the recommended updates. An alternative to Windows Update is to locate the installers in Critical files and manually installing them, you may receive a message stating that they are not applicable to your system. If that is the case you can unselect them when running autopatcher.

Windows Update may detect updates that are still required, these may have been superseded but still relevant to your Windows Installation. Autopatcher is updated to provide the latest available updates, superseded ones are removed.

If possible please supply a list of the updates that WU states that are required to be installed.

Updates are released on the second Tuesday of each month, but on occasions others are offered.

Well great, ok I explain, yesterday I clicked on install updates from windows update and they literally all failed except 2 (one critical and net framework 4.5). So I checked on the internet most of them, they were 2 cumulative for IE 11 that I ignored since they were replaced by the one I installed from Autopatcher, 5 updates are critical for net framework 3.5 (problem is im not sure I got net framework 3.5 on my pc, is there a way to install it from apup and do I really need it?)

Now I tried to go on the folders of modules and install manually the update,

Criticals:

- KB2862973 (The update is already installed on your computer) it say I got it already but in Autopatcher it still show up as uninstalled.
- KB2503665 (The update is not applicable...) So ill just ignore this one probably don't need it (it don't even show up in windows update)

Non criticals:

KB2952664 (The update is already installed on your computer) Same as the other one is already installed on my pc but it show as uninstalled on Autopatcher.

So I guess everything is ok with what concern to autopatcher.
Now with windows updates after done this I check for updates again and now it only show me 13 updates:
► Show Spoiler
As I said before im pretty sure I have net framework 4.5 but I don't see the 3.5 anywhere, and these the security updates im not really sure that I need them, so ill try to install them and if they fail, ill try to install them manually (they are probably not applicable to my system)

Thx for you quick help!

Re: Help with Autopatcher please (Problem resolved)

Just want to update, that the 3 security updates have been succesfuly installed. And I checked on programas if I got Net framework 3.5 installed and it seems I don't have it.

--Update:

I have activate net framework 3.5 from windows features and tried again to install the required updates and everything went perfect.

So in resume they is just 1 update of Autopatcher that wont install:

- KB2503665 (The update is not applicable...) So ill just ignore this one probably don't need it (it don't even show up in windows update)

And 2 updates that keep showing as non installed on autopatcher but actually they are installed on my system:

- KB2862973 (The update is already installed on your computer) it say I got it already but in Autopatcher it still show up as uninstalled.
KB2952664 (The update is already installed on your computer) Same as the other one is already installed on my pc but it show as uninstalled on Autopatcher.

From windows update I clicked now on check for updates and...

My system now show as up to date :)

Thx a lot for the reply's!

Corrected KB2862973 and KB2952664, updated the script and uploaded.

Script dated October 2

changelog: @KB2862973; @KB2952664;

Report your findings, thanks..

You can also install .NET Framework with autopatcher, check the listing and download the appropriate architecture (x86 or x64)

BTW Will look further into KB2503665 and report my findings.. Update -- have added File Detection to the apm module.

What to do: locate KB2503665_seven_x86.apm in Critical, rename the file (or move to a temp location), extract the attached archive to same location. Run autopatcher to check if the update appears in your list, report your findings.

@snapple --- will look into your request for these updates to be included in the Windows 8.1 x64 release.

Please note that the updates without KB2919355 are not provided with download links so these may have to installed using Windows Update (would take quite some to search the internet for suitable links for these).

Keep you posted

Have looked into the updates requested and found that these have been superseded by later updates, it would therefore be in the best interests to NOT include in the release.

It would be advisable to install these updates via Windows Update, remembering the autopatcher contains on the latest updates. You should also consider installing KB2919355 as this will eliminate the need for additional updates to be installed..
