After playing around for a while I think there may be something wrong with the apms for Java 8 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) because on 3 physical computers and 2 VM images Java 8 (both versions) always fail with an instant install finished message with the log saying it was installed but it has not been, I have attached logs saying they were installed successfully but they have not been. I have looked at the apms and do not see anything wrong with the switches, but this is not my area of expertise. But I do find it quite strange that they fail to install even running AP manually. (I am not as upset as this may seem, Whatacrock, just more interested in why it is not working). My other problem is that the answer file generated by AP does not work with my automated script, it just loads and then closes AP and I am not sure why it will not install anything via the answer file. The answer file only worked once, not sure why it did, but has not worked since. I posted the logs last page and my script on page 4, only changed it to put sweeper after apup, I am still as perplexed as I was then.

In the interest, as an academic exercise, I manually uninstalled all Java from my system, edited the apm modules, rebooted and start autopatcher. I selected firstly Java 8 Update 31 x64 only and installed.. installed correctly.
Restarted autopatcher, expanded the Addons (extras) release, Java 8 Update 31 x64 was installed correctly. Furthermore Java 8 Update 31 x86 was displayed in blue (installed) to my amazement. Then proceed with Java 7 Update 75 x64 and repeated the process, same result. Both x86 and x64 installed. Excitement short lived as upon checking file location, Java found in Program Files but not in Program Files (x86), so indeed both x64 and x86 need to be installed.

Here is something to try Matt4495, open the Java 8 Update 31 apms in Notepad and edit the installation selection as follows:
[Installation]
"Module:\jre-8u31-windows-x64.exe" /s /v "/qn REBOOT=Suppress"
edit it and do the same for the [Removal] section also the same for the x86 apm

Code: Select all

[Installation]
"Module:\jre-8u31-windows-x64.exe" /s
Report your results and if necessary I will edit and upload to the server...

BTW I found a typo that I will correct and upload amendments shortly.. DONE

UPDATE:

@Matt4495 ---- I FOUND the reason the update raced to 100 %, there was a typo in the filename, this has been also corrected, please download the Java 8 x86 release again and retest..

I modified the apm file for Java 8 Update 31 64-bit as requested, I did not modify the apm for Jab 8 Update 31 32-bit, Java 8 64-bit installed just fine but Java 8 32-bit still raced and did not install even though the log said it did.

EDIT: I did run APUP before this and did get the update for the Java 8 32-bit release.

Bruce fixed the apm for 8x86, running APUP and updating the Java 8x86 release should do the trick. Does your log show a new apm was downloaded, it should?

The java exe needs to match that which is in the apm, double check...
script... jre-8u31-windows-i586.exe
apm... "Module:\jre-8u31-windows-i586.exe" /s
